Sky Map: Explore Space with Google Maps API
Sky Map is a Chrome extension that allows you to explore space like a planetarium, viewing constellations, stars, galaxies, and nebulae using the Google Maps API. With this extension, you can easily navigate through space by selecting items from the extension's popup menu. The popup menu provides lists of popular galaxies, nebulae, stars, globules, and molecular clouds. By clicking on a name from these lists, you can instantly view the image of the object on the space map.
In addition to the Chrome extension, Sky Map also provides a website called Deep Space Map, where you can further explore sky map data. On the website, you can zoom in or out, move the current view, and see random locations nearby. The website offers a comprehensive view of distant galaxies, constellations, and nebulae, making it a perfect tool for astronomy enthusiasts. The navigation controls are similar to Google Earth, allowing you to click and drag to move the view, use the mouse scroller to zoom in and out, or use the navigation panel for precise control.
